DAVID RHODES AND THE PRE-SHOW ORGAN CONCERTS RETURN TO AFTER HOURS FILM SOCIETY PRESENTATIONS
Thanks to a generous grant from the JCS Arts, Health & Education Fund of DuPage Foundation (JCS Fund), organist David Rhodes and the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ Concerts return to the Tivoli stage. David, a beloved member of the After Hours experience, fell victim to post-COVID cutbacks. Attendees voiced their dismay, and After Hours responded with an application to the Visual Arts & Mini-Grant. The message resonated with the JCS Fund decision-makers, who agreed to provide funding to reinstate the concerts for one year. The Society is hopeful that the added feature will inspire more participation, increase ticket sales, and allow the organization to support organ concerts in the future.
ABOUT DAVID RHODES:
David was first introduced to the theatre organ experience at the age of 14 when he heard the organ interludes at the Tivoli Theatre and has since made it a part of his life. Currently serving as the Tivoli’s house organist, he is the Chicago Area Theatre Organ Enthusiasts (CATOE) vice president and is on the crew for many of the organs they maintain. In addition, David is the house organist for the George Cardinal Mundelein Auditorium at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary, where he plays their 4-manual 20-rank Wurlitzer and serves as the Crew Chief for this instrument, much to the delight of the students, faculty and especially Francis Cardinal George, Chancellor of the University. Concurrently, he is the Director of Music at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church LCMS in Des Plaines and is installing a 3-manual 20-rank theatre pipe organ in his home.
In 1999, David became an integral part of the After Hours Film Society programming, greeting attendees with pre-show concerts on the 3-manual 10-rank Wurlitzer theatre organ at their regular programs.
